fucking stupid quote. read charles bukowski, john dos passos and john fante, and get back to me. This comment will probably be deleted because dissent is never welcome among art communities. Or wait… is that among dictatorships? I can’t remember…
Thank you teeferbone for your comment. I appreciate your opinion, no offense or deletes necessary. I looked up John Fante and Charles Bukowski, both considered extraordinary authors. He, John Fante was proclaimed by Time Out magazine as one of America’s “criminally neglected writers.” according to Wikipedia, and I have heard of the movie, Walk on the Wild Side, from one of his novels. They were straight shooting authors, which can be refreshing.
Our opinions are colored & individualized by our own experiences, so I don’t see them as one being right and one being wrong, just honest.
I just read the quote from teeferbone ~ and may I add that although we all are entitled to our opinion ~ we also have a choice about how we express them ~ does profanity and unfounded accusation need be part of expressing a different point of view? I don’t think so ~ and I hope the next time you will chose to think before you do
Thank you Linda for your comments and congrats on the sale. In reply to teeferbone’s comment, that first word tilted me a little, but on that same day I had received another comment on another quote of mine that was extremely disrespectful to anyone reading it using not only profanity but sexual tones, making teeferbone’s comment “nothing” in comparison. I have come across “alot” of comments when looking at other people’s work with opinions as teeferbone’s using the same language, and so I made a choice…I apologize if it offends anyone, and I greatly appreciate and respect your opinion
I apologize for my previous comment. It was unnecessarily vulgar and a bit out of line, granted I wasn’t in my right mind at the time (an understatement, I won’t go into the details). I am both embarrassed and amazed that the author didn’t delete it. I respect you quite a bit jegustavsen. But in retrospect, I wish you would delete it.
I have nothing against the aesthetic value of the print - it is in fact pleasing to the eye, earthtones and all - my grudge is against the folly of the Angelou quote itself. Still, it is precisely HOW most artists pursued and dominated their art that made them what they are. How it made their viewers feel is an afterthought—it has EVERYTHING to do with how they SPOKE (said) and how they ACTED (did). The audience / fanfare reaction is a consequence and afterthought of this.
Maya Angelou knows this too. Forget that I said I hate you, forget that that I murdered your brother—I’m giving you a back massage. How does it make you feel?
teeferbone, thank you for your apologize. I apologize for responding late, as I am just now catching up on my redbubble site. That was very considerate of you and I appreciate your thoughtfulness.
Your opinion doesn’t offend me. Our opinions are ours. You probably know some facts about Maya Angelou that I was unaware of.
I am not as young as I use to be. When I came across this quote; quite a while back, it didn’t matter to me who the author was (or what the author may have done), what mattered was that this quote made me become more responsible for my behavior towards others.
I know in my life time I have hurt/offended others intentially and unintentially. My one pray is to be forgiven.
I will never know everyones past and what sorrows or demons they may have experienced, and that a lone should hush my lips to pass judgement, as when someone accuses me of my actions without thinking there may be a damn good reason for my behavior at the time.
We humans seem to struggle with imperfections as much as perfection it seems. Again I see your comment as an “honest” one and I hate to delete an honest opinion, but I also respect your feelings and if you still want your comment deleted I will do so, but will wait to hear from you.
does nobody else see the irony in the phrase “people will forget what you said” and then at the end having [Maya Angelou]?
i think the quote is stupid and meant to appease mediocricy, people will never remember what you said if you never say anything worth remembering!
same goes for what you did ofcourse people will not remember you if you never did anything. but look at the people who are remember today Archimedes, Sophocles, Cleopatra, all died a long time ago yet they are not remembered for how they made people feel but for what they did and said!
I would inverse your quote to make it true.
Sorry if i am taking a very factual view of this quote.
