Mystic age

In a very small area of the very large Blue Mountains of N.S.W. Australia. Whenever I visit this particular place everything seems to stop & one can get lost in a world far from what they are thinking. The POOL OF SALOAM in Leura is a world all of its own & is a Treasure to the mountains area it lies in & surrounds itself with. A virtual Rainforest that has much to offer to trekkers, photographers & people who visit this truelly beautifull spot. This
shoot was testing as the light was playing with the Mist that hung around till after lunchtime & the presence of dark areas made it hard to get correct
exposures without whiteouts in prime areas of the frame.

Great shot Jeff. THe mist really adds to the atmosphere and you’ve done well to handle the exposure of it. So sad though to see the silt build up… From accounts from old folk around the place (even my parent’s generation) you used to be able to swim in that pool, and indeed many such pools. But now with continued development the sediment has shifted and filled in many of them

  • JeffStockton replied

Gday Will, great to hear from you & I hope you’re well. It’s sad to say that I have noticed, in the past few years ,that this area has been subjected greatly to the silt deposits of Man’s progress. I first discovered this area nearly 4 years ago now & it was so much deeper than nowadays.I really wonder what will happen in the next 5
years & beyond to this truelly beautifull area of the Bluey’s.
Minni ha-ha is suffering the same consequence (as you know) & people are concerned with the next 20 years of GLOBAL WARMING but as I see it there are issues we all should be thinking of in the
nearer future. Thanks for viewing & all the comments mate

Yeah Mini Ha Ha is the classic. I know my fiance’s parents used to dive into the pool at the bottom of the pool. Last time I was there you could walk across it. Man shouldn’t shoulder all the blame. They are probably suffering from a lack of a really good flood, that would flush out the creek systems. Oh and thanks for putting up a bit of my old home!

  • JeffStockton replied

Thanks for that Will. It makes me sit & think just how fast things can
    change in the Natural world

I just love this Jeff… especially with the mist… makes me feel at home! This was a walk I used to regularly do as a quick afternoon stroll. When I was visiting a friend recently we went for a quick dash for old times sake and you really can see the difference I’m afraid. I haven’t been down to Mini ha-ha since I left… I’m sad to hear it’s suffering too…. : (

  • JeffStockton replied

I’m glad you love this Jenny & you can feel at home by viewing it. So much change in such a short time…but in a way I am glad that I can
be a part of seeing this ancient land & am ever so gratefull to have this oppurtunity that I never tire of.Thanks for your great comment

It is important to collect rubbish, remove weeds and dig a few buckets of sand out of the pool every time you visit, take a hike, or swim.
It also used to be ‘ofay’ to collect firewood on your daily travels, but now this is theft, and unfortunately leads to increased fuel build-up.
Now is the time to pick all of those screaming yellow flowers by the roadside (out now! in the blue mountains!), before they go to seed….
Lovely shot and a lovely place to be Jeff.

Good point there Andy & a great way to do our part in Conservation
of our natural world. I’ll remember to take a bucket & spade next time
