I studied painting at the School of Visual Arts in New York City receiving my B.A in 1993. My earliest influences were Matisse, Cezanne, Gauguin, Van Gogh, Picasso and Stuart Davis…. I’m proud to admit they helped me a great deal in defining my style.
As a child I moved from LA, to Tokyo, to London. I then did 3 years of school in Paris before moving to New York. I spent 9 years in New York, 9 years in New Mexico, and moved to Sacramento, California in 2003.
I am especially interested in movement, and the distortion of it. Movement seems more real to me when it is the suggestion of movement in the lift of a heel, the turn of the head, the wind in the trees, a bicyclist passing by. Often I will flatten perspective to gain contrast or depth, straying outside the parameter of real or reality.
I have several showings of my paintings locally and would be very happy to show you, should you be in the Sacramento area. I hope you enjoy this work as much as I have enjoyed producing it.
