This painting was inspired by a common scene outside of Home Depot: these young men who have to wait in the parking lot every day for someone to hire them. I saw one of them peering over a wall to a construction site just next door. He was standing there on the outside looking in — of the job site, of the possibility of work, of a position in society. His friend watches us the viewer, sharing his awareness with us.
Original painting is acrylic on canvas, 40" height x 30" width.
