Tubes of Wonder - Abstract Watercolor + Pen Illustration by

Check out the time-lapse video with the making of this drawing in HD!

This is a bit of an experiment with a new take on two of my favorite media: Ink and watercolor. I used Copic Multiliner SP pigment-based pens with Dr. Ph. Martin’s liquid watercolors to get such vibrant color. The process was really just going back and forth between watercolor and pen as I went, in my familiar abstract style.

It’s also a time-lapse video! The illustration was started on August 21st 2012, which I continued on the 22nd, 24th, and finished on the 27th. A rough estimate is that I spent around 5-6 hours working on it, all told.

The audio track is me singing along to the video while watching a test render, with a bunch of random audio filters thrown on it. I did not make a serious attempt at songwriting, it is just me making noises because I got a bit bored of doing narrations

I’m a Denver, Colorado artist specializing in vibrant, fluid, psychedelic abstract paintings and illustrations in a variety of media. I work in pen, pencil, watercolor, acrylic, photography, and digital painting.

Just saw the youtube video on my own time and not while on RB. I am surprised I haven’t seen your work before. It is insane! You would be interested in another artist here who your work reminds me of. Continued success. :)

  • Lenora, Thanks for the comment. I appreciate the sentiment. :) Send me a message with the other artist’s name and I’ll check it out.

This is amazing! Love it…Putting it on my Christmas list right at the top. I don’t know how you do it, but it rocks!

  • Thank you! Look out for discounts. Redbubble offers them pretty often with discount codes at the top of the screen on the website. Also, you’ve probably seen the timelapse for this painting, but if not, check it out – link in the description. :)
