Jeff this is outstanding. I have to tell you … there’s a bit of an ominous feel to this … and the title worries me … as if the news is bad. Maybe their son was in the military …. ?? But me, being me … I’d prefer to think that it’s good news … that their daughter is announcing that she’s just become engaged and is on her way to come visit and show off her pretty ring!!!! And that Dad is just about to bust out into a happy jig!!!
It certainly can go either way can’t it? I’m glad you found such interesting stories in it..that’s what I’m after. Thanks so much for your comments.

Wonderful, Jeff! I love the idea of this… letting people who have the pleasure of seeing it, wonder what he has recieved.
I got so carried away with the story behind your image I forgot to congratulate you on the honor of a RedBubble Feature on the Featured Art and Photography Page today!!!!!!!
Thank you Lois. I hadn’t realized it was on there. Also thaks for the screenshot.
Well, I dont know if you planned it this way…but my mind takes two directions here. First….a letter from a son, good news. Just that poor old dad has a rough time getting around of late. Second….not good news, and dad is almost struck down and mom is welded to her spot feeling the heartbreak of her husband. this photo of a fantastic painting has so much feel to it, it is more like a picture of a real scene unfolding in front of me. I did plan for it to be ambiguous – you can create your own story. Of course I did have something in mind but if I said what it was, it would ruin my invitation for you to have your own ideas. By the way, thanks so much for your comments.
My favourite type of art, I call it real art. The type of art that is happening around us 24 7. I reckon its news about their first great great grandchild. The old boy reminds me of someone very special, I really can`t put into words how much this piece means to me, nice one Jeff.
Thanks. I the farmer is sort of a composit of several of the locals that gather at the local diner every morning for coffee and stories.
