My journey as a photographer began at age thirteen when my parents gave me a box camera for my birthday. I loaded it with black and white film, started taking pictures and soon I was hooked. I gained more experience in junior high when I worked on the school newspaper and learned how to use a 4 X 5 press camera. As a young adult, my interest in photography really blossomed when I began hiking and mountain climbing. I bought a used rangefinder camera, and soon graduated to a Nikon SLR. I have been shooting exclusively with Nikon equipment ever since. Kodachrome was my film of choice in the beginning and has been until the past few years. It will be a sad day it is no longer available. Today however, I really enjoy the freedom and flexibility of digital photography.

My photographic technique is very simple. I like clean simple lines, saturated color and interesting subjects. I believe great photographs are not an accident. Being in the right place at the right time and planning the shoot are as important as proper equipment and having enough film or flash cards. Early morning and late evening are my favorite times of the day to photograph. Whenever practical a tripod is used to steady my camera.

Over the years, photography combined with my outdoor activities, has been a constant source of inspiration and pleasure. Thank you for taking the time to view my portfolio. I hope you enjoy it.
