TN Garden Buddies-Anolis Carolinensis Lizard by

Anolis Carolinensis Lizards inhibit tropical, and subtropical America…Only Green Anole native to the USA. Pigments of their skin might vary, and the light blue are rare, as are the yellow. Even though they have the ability to turn every shade of brown and green. Hardly noticed because of their color, unless they happen to be several, or they make a quick movement, or you are looking for them. `
Sometimes called the American Chameleon, Named after the Carolinas and are found closer to the coast, southeastern states, and as far west as Texas and Oklahoma. These lizards enjoy the tropical atmosphere of the Smoky Mountains where I live. Even though they are usually found in the Southern States and the tropics, I feel I am blessed to have a unique place in which they thrive. Very beneficial in gardens, insectavorous, eats many insects. Popular in the pet trade, but if you buy some for natural insectiside, I would buy the native lizard. These just came here, but I have been tempted to buy, or if something happened and I didn’t see any… but didn’t find these at the local pet store. They came when I got into watergardening, or possibly could have came with a tropical plant. But they are as close as N. Carolina so I think they were already here. They are popular with kids, but due to lack of knowledge in proper care, lots loose their lives, put in tanks. I recommend a habitat outdoors where you can enjoy them all the time. It gets very cold here, and they do fine. They go underground, below the rocks in the landscape, or hide under the siding of our home. They come out and warm on the brick, or bask in the sun on rocks, and on the fence railing. They have their territory in which they hunt, but they are found in the same area each day most of the time. Kids would love it. Documentations of the winter refuge of 16 anole in their brown color in winter cold. “Is It Cold Or What”… Habitat, Plants, small trees, schrubs, (arborial lizards) like to climb, watergarden, etc. created the habitat unknowingly, but they are fun to photograph, watch and study. They prefer to drink water from leaves, early morning dew or rain water. If it is really hot I have been out spraying the waterhose, and they will drink.
Male Green Anole Lizard. You can see the crest down his back called a roach. His dewlap is under his neck, which he dispays in territorial battles or mating rituals. I like to show off the Anole Lizards in my garden. Enjoy garden life, creat an oasis in your yard.
