Anolis Carolinensis Lizard Habitat in my private garden in Tennessee. Ajoining the Natioal Park line….I wish to let people know of the habitat, and learn as well… A. carolinensis is the only reptile that does not hibernate and it is active on sunny Winter days when air temperatures are below 0c.. the rock faces in the wild are warmed on and in which they dig under over-winters. Under way are studies of geographic variation in responses to temperature and moisture, and of reproductive biology, aimed at understanding how this representative of an essentially tropical genus has adapted to life in a decidedly seasonal temperate environment. The Smokies gets very cold, but other seasons are tropical like, and very humid at times, not at other… Anole are brown or grey in cold, and bright green in warm temperatures…Temperature, and emotion are factors in their color change. Observed them for 15 yrs. and documentations with extra research.
