I am very excited to have my art selected, from over 39000 works of art, to exhibit in SoJie 5. SoJie 5 takes its name from the Solo Exhibition group’s Juried Invitational Exhibition. This month is only the 5th one, ever, and 61 other artists, besides myself, are represented.

Winners of the invitational will be announced on July 28th, when a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place will be awarded in three categories: digital art, photography, and traditional art.

Non members, as well as members, ARE welcome to view all of the work nominated. So I hope that you will click the show banner, above, and follow the link to view my fellow exhibitors. The works are shown “gallery size” and are beautiful, seen together.

If you do not belong to the group, Solo Exhibition, you cannot participate in commenting; and joining to comment is not encouraged. But you CAN lend support by commenting in my journal, here, about the show.

THIS JOURNAL IS ALSO PART OF A WEB RING. You can also follow other artists involved, by clicking on the WEB RING BADGE below. You don’t need to be a member of Solo Exhibition to show your support, this web ring is especially for non members! Thank you!

July 2010 Juried Invitational Exhibition

I created this drawing based on the movements of ants, recording how and where they moved, fused with my own imagination, and again supported by the compositional work of Lola Perrin.

The art of Jedika is shown around the world, and is regarded as one of the rising stars of Australian art. His latest show was exhibited at the South Bank recital Hall in London to celebrate the music of the London composer Lola Perrin.
He is known not only for his paintings, but also for his published illustration work. and literature.

John Kennedy was born 1973 in Solihull, UK; his family immigrated to Australia a year later. “As an amusing but true story; for me Art began at the age of five when I chose to follow an ant for a whole day. I remember its journey vividly, across the cracked soils and dry grass. I recall its challenges and the solutions found. I recorded the line of its journey and that became the first line I remember drawing. It’s a reference I return to again and again.”
At 19 John was put under the wing of one of the great Australian Abstract Expressionist painters, Ron Lambert (1923-1995), who had studied under Oskar Kokoscka in Austria. It was then that he began to experiment with painting more intensely; producing one of his most important works, ‘The Lady of Shallot’ (Alfred Lord Tennyson), a painting that only took the length of time that the poem was recited. It was the beginning of John’s exploration to create works influenced by alternate disciplines.
In 1998 John Kennedy held his first one-man show ‘Canto One’ and since then he’s been part of many National and International group exhibitions, including the 2nd International Student Triennial Exhibition, Istanbul (2000). In March 2007 John held his first exhibition in the UK at London’s South Bank Centre in tandem with a concert from acclaimed Jazz pianist Lola Perrin. John exhibited 12 drawings, produced in inspiration of Lola’s music. This was then followed by an exhibition held at the Museum of Design in London in 2009
As well as receiving regular commissions from paintings to theatre backdrops, John Kennedy has a special interest in archaeological illustrations, drawing ancient artefacts from places such as Paphos, Cyprus and New Zealand for academic publications.
