The Gift by

It was a real blessing on Saturday, that I was able to adopt from the trap site at Stone Cabin, Nevada holding facilities a beautiful colt . There were 12 and 7 were adopted which is pretty good. My colt is about 6months old and has gorgeous markings and coloring. The Stone Cabin area where he is from in Nevada has a lot of history associated with this particular wild horse HMA, it is well known that Jack Longstreet a Texas, gunslinger, gambler, claim jumper moved to the Stone Cabin area in Nevada and brought to the desert descendents of the steel dust gray thoroughbred horses. They thrived in the Nevada desert, you can still see many steel grays in the herd .There is some very reputable findings that a lot of these horses still carry the Spanish mustang blood in them.
Stone Cabin was where the first roundup was conducted after the 1971 free roaming wild horse and burro act was passed and Wild Horse Annie herself was present to watch the gathering, back then they used bait and water trappings. She was known to favorite the Stone Cabin horses.
I haven’t named my colt yet because I want his name to be as special as he his any ideas welcome.
I think getting a horse from the trap site is so much better than having them hauled off in a trailer for hundreds of miles and put in a holding facility , right from the range they are less traumatized and far more trusting ,people like to see them up close and view the range where they came from, also it is a big plus that they have been handled very little. I think it is a successful way to have more people adopt. This colt is very mellow and is accepting of people. I am looking forward to this new adventure with him, what a joy and gift to be able to have him, he will have as much freedom now, as if he was still in the wilderness. A huge thank you and gratitude to Laura Leigh who helped make this adoption possible and to Nevada Horse Power for the transportation they are the Best!.
