Venice, summer 2009.

I wanted a shot that summed up the Venice for me – all this ancient history and culture, side by side with vendors selling cheap mass-produced T-shirts and masks. This mask’s implacable expression just seemed to sum up the city’s attitude to the latest invasion of visitors: I’ve seen it all before and I’ll see it all again.

Thanks Ilva :) And thanks David! It took ages to get just the angle I wanted – I’m sure the mask seller thought I was trying to nick something…!
