Another from last weekend on my trip over to the Northumbria coast. Taken not long before high tide at Dunstanburgh Castle.
An 8-sec exposure using a 6-stop filter and grad, and lots of filter cloths!

Canon EOS 30D, Efs 10-22 lens @ 12mm, CP, graduated filter, ND filter, tripod-mounted, mirror lockup and 2 sec self timer set. 8 secs @ F/16, ISO 100

Photography is my passion. I get a great deal of pleasure from this wonderful hobby. When the light and the composition come together at the same time, it’s as good as winning the lottery!

Ooh, sheer magic. Why the mirror lockup? I’m clueless about such things! :)

  • Thanks Polly.
I always use mirror lock-up when doing landscape photography Polly. It assists ensure sharpness in the resulting image. I usually use my remote cable too but in this case, the tripod was so low and the camera so close to the water, and I had so much to keep an eye on with the splashing incoming tide, it was easier to put the mirror lock-up on and also set the camera at self timer. Normally the self timer is about 10 seconds but with mirror lock=up on its 2 secs so I can get the image without messing with the cable and end up dropping it in the sea! :D
