One more photo of the series “Watching over Lisbon”; This time, a photo of the underside of the Rua Augusta Arch Triumphal (Arco do Triunfo da Rua Augusta) in Lisbon’s downtown. I noticed the simple yet detailed stonecraft so I thought I should take picture.
The arch has a Latin sentence on it:
VIRTVTIBVS MAIORVM VT SIT OMNIBVS DOCVMENTO .PPD
it means something like this:
To the Virtues of the Greatest, for it may serve of teaching to all.
the PPD part means:
Built at public expense.
