Never Go To A Movie Alone

In the movie theater sits a woman without a man. A woman all by herself sitting in the same row five seats to my right, and now I must decide whether or not to leave my seat and move over next to her. This is probably not a good idea since she will undoubtedly get up immediately and ask the usher to call the police.

Earlier while waiting in line I saw her buy a ticket and walk in alone, and now I’m sitting next to her. Will she leave me? Does she fear me? Will we be lovers later tonight, tomorrow, next week or never?

I say hello, start a conversation and she answers, she actually RESPONDS, SHARES, two ordinary people communicating, two strangers exchanging words moving back and forth between us.

Yes she is afraid of me because I’m weird, the anguished look on my face and reluctance to make eye contact she looks away and then suddenly gets up and moves ten rows in front and off to the right because SHE DESPISES ME.

Later she will go home, rub disinfectant on the spot where I contaminated her although it was accidental, a terrible mistake of judgment dear God I promise I will never again say hello to strangers, please understand that I AM NOT A PERVERT
but a really nice guy just trying to connect with a fellow human being who happens to be a female what’s the BIG DEAL I beg you not to press charges!!!

She says nothing because there is nothing to say.
There is no response, there is no kindness,
there is only silence except for a clock ticking and handcuffs clicking.
