Philosophy of life? I believe we have to make our way in the world as best we can, working hard and conscientiously at what we have been trained to do, and keeping in mind the moral and aesthetic values that we cherish. There must also be personal autonomy, a sense of independence that one is his own master determining his own destiny. And of course there must be the loyalties and affections of those with whom your own life is entwined.
Unfortunately sometimes our work gets us down and not everything we have to do is to our liking, but we find compensations and discover a satisfying sense of fulfillment. Compromises? Unfortunately far too many, but no one can live without making them my dear sonny boy. Life is good and bad, satisfying and frustrating, the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat, and we have to take all of it, not just the half we like. But there’s enough of the good and the sweet to make it worthwhile.
