All Things Poetic, Artistic, Philosophical, Live, Love, Dream: May you have a Blessed Christmas Season and The Urban EnvironmentToday dawned much too warm and excessively humid with a moderate breeze wafting sulphurous fumes across the Hudson River from somewhere in New Jersey. As I rode the subway to work, flaccid folds of flesh pressed toward me from every direction in a torrid torso assault. Later in the afternoon I entered a Korean grocery to purchase a can of Hormel chili. Just before paying the bill I saw that the clerk’s left hand had three fingers missing. Of course I said nothing, pretending not to notice the mangled hand fumbling for my change.

Quite a slice of life here in just a few lines.
Each[first person, clerk] with their discomfort, trials, in the routine of a day.
Some would ask how he’d lost his fingers. Some, like first person, pretend not to notice.
Good to read and to think on.

Very good Del-
as always great comments. Really like your term “slice of life”-perhaps it would make a better title for the poem!! As you see, I decided to change title to “three fingers missing”-still not sure which is best i.e. “the mangled hand”, “three fingers missing” or “slice of life”—thanks again for stopping by and all the best,
