Fall is a wonderful time to watch the combative nature of the seasons. The storm fronts off the Pacific obliterate the crest of the Swan Range giving Cygnet Lake a cocoon like stillness. This is the weather that brings the southerly migration of waterfowl that have summered in northern Canada. The swans, geese and ducks spend just a few days with us as they retreat from the ice and snow that is piling up at elevations just above us and will soon reach our valley floor. At that point, like the birds we have watched, we too will leave the valley and not return until next spring.
