On the fence
The Starling
People just don’t realise how good looking this little bird is up close’ a lot of people think they are just black as you can see not true’ I love this little bird and would like to promote and give It the true justice that they deserve.
Smaller than blackbirds, with a short tail, pointed head, triangular wings, starlings look black at a distance but when seen closer they are very glossy with a sheen of purples and greens.
Their flight is fast and direct and they walk and run confidently on the ground. Noisy and gregarious, starlings spend a lot of the year in flocks. Still one of the commonest of garden birds, its decline elsewhere makes it a Red List species.
They eat Insects and fruit.

Prior to reading your narrative I was thinking as I was looking at the image, how well you brought out the natural beauty in this species. They are wonderful arent they? You certainly put them on the map with this effort Jon. Well done. Great shot :)))

Starlings are of sheer bejewelled beauty. When they take flight by the thousands and turn in a huge synchronised flock, the spectacle is breathtaking. This is a very pretty individual.

I have only seen starlings looking down at me from the rafters of a barn. This is a much improved view!
