Moonlight Cameo Digital Art by John D Moulton

Part of the Moonlight Cameo Calendar Collection

This is where ALL my art began. Way back in the 1950’s as a young boy, fascinated by the patches of light that fell onto the face of the ladies that adorned my mother’s Woman’s Weekly magazine. I would map out the patches of light with a ball-point pen and then block out the rest. Later, having got in to trouble once too often for ruining the magazines, I would put carbon paper under the image and tracing paper over it to transfer these lines onto plain paper. All I needed to do then was fill in all but those highlights with black ink. I LOVED THE RESULT and my "Moonlight Cameo’s were born.
These days I get better results in PhotoShop, but the principle is the same. “See the light, paint the shadows” is the rule, your image is born of the white paper you leave untouched -TRUE negative space.
Try it yourself, it is a fascinating process, a real learning curve in understanding the quality of ‘light’ and a joy to behold when it all comes together.

My art has always been my passion and here at RedBubble you will find what I believe represents the best I have achieved so far.“If you would like to comment on any aspect of my work, I would be delighted to hear from you.
