'Little Trumpeter'

This photo of a young African elephant was taken in Chobe National Park, BOTSWANA.

Elephants are all about family. This little one can be confident in the luxury and security of not only its mothers love, care and protection, but that of the whole family group.
But still today these highly intelligent, sentient and sensitive creatures are being poached for their ivory tusks and other body parts. When an adult elephant is senselessly killed, the loss is felt throughout the whole family and the bright future of youngsters such as this one then becomes a little dimmer. Every elephant that is lost, also represents the loss of generations worth of ingrained culture and wisdom.

Jeunes Animaux Confisqués au Katanga (young animals confiscated in Katanga) or “J.A.C.K” is a refuge centre for orphaned chimpanzees. Based in the Democratic Republic of Congo, JACK is an independent, self funded NGO that also works to slow and then to stop the dreadful haemorrhage of forest wildlife.

All profits made through these cards will go towards the rehabilitation and care of the young chimpanzee orphans at JACK. Further donations can be made by contacting Mr. Franck Chantereau (founder)at jack@lub.gbs.cd or visiting the (french) website at www.littlejak.fr

Thanks all! Mostly a case of right place, right time for this one. And perhaps even a little posing from this young exhibitionist helped =)

I love elephants. I had no idea that they were still killed for their ivory. I thought that was something of the past. Thank you for sharing this wonderful picture and that bit of information.
