Three bridges - no more ... by

The pictures shows the three bridges crossing the River Waal near Zaltbommel in the Netherlands as they could be seen between 1996 and 2007. Last year the bridge in the middle has alas been pulled down. It was built in 1933 as roadbridge, but in the age of the motorways proved to be too narrow. The new bridge from 1996, called the Martinus Nijhoffbrug, is now the only road connection, while the outer bridge on the right side is a railway bridge.

About jchanders

As a retired historian, I have a wide interest in nature photography. No longer able to travel very much, I try to find beauty nearby. And there is so much of it! I hope you will enjoy it as much as I do.

I always want to duck when I look at bridges from this perspective. Just right, with the barge going by.

My favourite bridge in the Netherlands is the Ouste Schelde (apologies for the spelling). Used to drive over it just for pleasure !!!
