Young and old beech-trees

When parts of these old beech-tree lanes are cut down, it is always a sorry sight at first. Fortunately young trees are planted on the country-house lanes immediately afterwards here. And sometimes the mixture of young and old gives an especially beautiful effect.

This is certainly so in this beautiful autumnal colour parade on the main lane of the country-house Gooilust in ´s-Graveland. I am glad I went there this morning before all the autumnal foliage would be gone. It is a matter of days now, I am afraid.

You may wonder why there are so few leaves on the ground. Well, these lanes are so well kept that the leaves are blown to the side quite quickly. Of course it is safer, but a beautiful element is certainly lost.

Just a personal note to all of you who asked so kindly about my well-being: my strength and confidence are improving steadily. So once again to my great pleasure I could go out on my this bike this morning.
