Longing for the colour green once again

How different are the colours in the present winter forest here: just brown and black and grey and a little bit of green somewhere. So when I returned from my wet Sunday morning bike trip just now, I did long for the colour green again. And so I dig up this old shot, bringing my – and hopefully your – minds into a greener world.

This dreamful scene of a very peaceful beechtree grove was taken near Laage Vuursche on a lovely slightly hazy day in early October 2007. You could hear the elves whisper behind the trees …

You shouldn’t take any notice of what those elves whispered about you, Juergen. We still like you anyway! (LOL)
Here I am, in Sydney, sitting up at 23:00 hours, in just shorts only, after a warm day, feeling sentimental about the few days of ice (and snow) that you people enjoyed and you’re yearning for green.
The leaves are always greener, on the other side!!
(That’s my favourite colour reddish-brown, so nicely balanced with the (blue-ish) green!)

  • jchanders replied

I am not so sure they whispered about me; probably they had more important things to whisper about …
Yes, those green meadows on the other side of the ditch/river/lake! Always greener than on this side! But it is really greener over there! I mean in May and after …
As to those few ice days, it is indeed a pity they did not last longer and the famous tour could not happen. But at least we had this short period.
The downside: about 10 000 people were helped in Dutch hospitals with broken arms etc due to the accidents on the ice. It is a tricky enjoyment. And many people probably thought they could scate better than they really could after a pause of many years.

Once again you have come up trumps with this woodland scene.
today in Sussex we had a glorious (and mild) sunny winter’s day, So we took ourselves off to the woods for a walk (and in my case photography).

he green of spring is magical, is it not. I was just out in my garden and I see that the irises that I planted last year are sprouted leaves and my roses are also sending forth new leaves. Spring is indeed just around the corner and I will keep this image as a favortie to refer to as I wish that spring would get here faster.

Completely off-topic, Juergen, I am very impressed by the way you handle, not only the camera, but also the way you obviously use at least three different languages so very well indeed. Zeker weten!!!

Great shot – so much green for October. I love beech trees because of their graceful, noble form, and the fact that they keep their golden leaves all winter.
