Wow. This is amazing. Where in the world did you find this?

The picture was taking at Brandywine Falls about 2 miles from my house.
We had some serious storms during the night. I decided to go to the falls to take some pictures.

I am using a filter lens. Its a Hoya R72 Infrared lens. It goes over my existing lens on my camera

Everyone has said it already: Great photography (with the exposure and composition). That effect just came with an infrared lense? Means, that might have the same effect on a analogue camera, too? I’d have to try this :D

However, not wanting to pry … But… is this waterfall by any chance near the Dam at Croton-on-Hudson? :c) The shape looks familiar and makes me think of my home-for-two-years.

Thanks for your kind words on my own infrared pictures Jeff! My pictures were taken with old-fashioned Kodak high speed infrared film and loaded onto my PC via a neg scanner. You seem to have had more luck than me taking digital infrared pictures though (I love this one).

FYI and in response to Zeanana’s comments a few days ago: All digital cameras can take infrared pictures with an infrared filter fitted, but the cameras actually contain infrared blocking filters, so you need to take very long exposures to get round this. Ideal for your waterfall though!

Thanks for inquiring. I actually left the shutter open about 10 seconds on this shot at a 3.2 AV
But it is different everytime. I usually end up snapping 10+ shots a few at each setting messing around to try to get the perfect setting. I have a few more shots in my portfolio that I actually used similar settings and put the camera on Neutral Density or B&W mode. This is what happens when you leave the camera in full color mode. On the If the Tree’s could Talk shot I actually set the camera to Vivid colors to sharpen the orange a bit.

Turn down your hightlights, the bright sky is fighting with the beautiful water. and, perfect angle, couldn’t ask for more.

Dehk I did toy around with turning down the contrast a to get rid of the brightness, but to be honest I got risky and left it because it really made the image look like there was a massive light shining down and I wanted the photo to show that. Especially the angle of where the sun was. It was right at me at that time of the day. Thus the “Heaven Shining Down on Me”
But I do appreciate your point of view and I do have a shot of it toned down. I have had a few people comment that way off line.

I would try giving Paypal a call. Believe it or not I had the same problem a while back and they had a date wrong which kept declining my card. I called them and they straightened it out.

I really never had a problem with paypal besides that its very secure. If they cannot help you, you can always shoot me an email.

Another thing to do which is what I did. Get a credit card and make them make your limit like $200
most credit cards do that. Then putting it on paypal you don’t have to worry to much.

Jeff, this is the first image I saw on RB the day I signed up—think it was amoung the featured images. And it blows me away as much today as it did then. Amazingly surreal effects with shutter speed and IR filter, the two going hand-in-hand. Love the coloration too. It’sw a massive shot and it well deserves the massive praise it’s received.

Very effective use of the IR filter to create a really unique image – well done!!

What a magnificent image this is Jeff – the colour is glorious – didn’t know you could get this effect with IR and the way you’ve composed it is superb. As a matter of coincidence I’ve also just posted an “orange shot” and it’s ended up side by side with yours on Masterpiece or Masterwork or whatever that group is called.

I’m so glad you finally got The Shot after the long wait, bro. This is truly a masterpiece.

I’m almost afraid to say this but the perfectionist in me demands it. Please forgive me if it was addressed previously as I wasn’t able to read all the comments. Is that a powerline to the left? :-( I’d have favourited this shot if not for that single thing.

Still, a masterpiece is a masterpiece and Mona doesn’t have any eyebrows either… :-D

If you wouldn’t mind, could you supply the metadata? The way you captured this waterfall is ideal and try as I may, I haven’t figured out how slow to get a shutter to make this happen for me.

By the way, the extreme shock of light at the top is so right for the title I hope you’ll include this artist wonder in the Living Christianity group. It will be cherished there as well!

AMAZING! I love this one….did you convert your camera to infrared?
I was told I had to convert my camera to get a true infrared shot. I don’t want to do that.
I used to take film infrared MANY MANY years ago. Now I am used to digital..;) I need to find a way to take shots like this with a digital. Any info would be greatly appreciated….Ü
