Prayer lanterns and city

These lanterns hang by one of the temples in Seoul. Through them you can see the contrasting modern buildings surrounding the Coex complex. Although in a busy business district with constant traffic passing by, once you walk through the gate into the temple you can feel the peace and quiet and your heart and mind quieten. I liked this shot because of the contrast – it is typical of many Asian countries to have the traditional and the modern side-by-side. The lanterns lend a sense of peace and well-being to the buildings in the background which would have felt busy commercial otherwise.
