I know, I know – another marmot. I love marmots. So much personality in a small package. This guy is on the communal sunning rock. The rock has a small back rest, so the marmots sometimes plop themselves down in a reclining position, and just sit there for long periods of time. You can tell this is a fat and happy marmot, getting ready for a long winter hibernation.
This will be one of the last warm, sunny days – the short alpine summer is over, fall is in the air and tundra, and it won’t be long before winter arrives. The day of rain in Denver was snow on Mt Evans, and there’s probably a foot of snow where I was spending time with marmots just a couple of weeks ago. They may have already begun their winter hibernation.
