It’s almost here. There’s a chill in the air in the morning. Some leaves are starting to turn yellow. The bulls – even the young ones – are getting restless. Before long the bulls will start herding their harems, buggling and jousting with their rivals.

I love Fall; it’s my favorite season of the year.

This is a big bull in RMNP. He’s collected a large harem, and spends most of his days now buggling, jousting with other bulls, and chasing away rivals from his harem. The day before this photo was taken he jousted with a similarly sized bull and ripped out one side of his competitor’s rack!

I’m primarily a nature photographer, usually wildlife, and I have lots of access to wildlife in Colorado. My main goal is to capture some of the individual personality of each of the animals I photograph – to document not just a fox, for instance, but to show something of that specific fox, something unique about that individual animal.

I prefer spring. Never mind – this looks like a boy who’s looking for some action! Nice timing!

Wow!! This is awesome Jay!! I never see these, we have some in the White Mtns., but my last trip I couldn’t locate them. Perfect timing, great shot!!!

  • It’s hard NOT to find them, particularly in Estes Park – you practically have to elbow your way through them at times. They’re ahead of you at the gas station, and good luck playing a round of golf in the fall . . .

Nice shot Jay I am doing a show in Estes Park this week end and hope to get some time to go shooting.

  • Let me know how things are in Estes & RMNP. I’m not going this weekend as I thought it’s not quite prime time for Fall, but it seems like Fall may be a little early this year.

    Good luck with your show!
