Chubby Marmot
Marmots are the alpine cousins to ground hogs. They’re busy all summer eating in preparation for their hibernation over the long mountain winters. This was an exceptionally large fellow who was sunning himself on a rock.

They usually scurry away if you get too close (and by “close,” I mean within their visual range), but this big guy was an immobile blob. He was great as a model, though. I wish all my wildlife subjects were this cooperative.

They’re also called “Brake Line Chewers” in some places! I was not always so fond of marmots. I’ve had them chew through ropes and a pack before. But they’re so cute and interesting, who can stay angry?

Hi, Jay!!!!! Your photo is the ‘challenge photo’ in Mood and Ambience’s recent challenge – I think the challenge has something to do with chubbiness (or something like that)! lol I entered one of my fat squirrels!!!!!! You’ll need to take a look!!!!! Anyway, this Marmot is adorable!!!!!
