Downward Fox
It’s been a while since I was at my fox hole, and decided to go to today to see how the place is.
Damage from the storm has progressed to the point that all the back trails are again open and much of the debris from the storm has been removed. There are still piles of limbs here and there, and a LOT more open sky.
I ran into this fox within about 50 meters of the parking lot. I’m not familiar with this fox. He sat and watched me for a bit and apparently decided I wasn’t too much of a risk and went about his morning rituals, including a long series of stretches.

This is just gorgeous Jay! I’m so glad to see that there are still foxes at the old location. This one looks really healthy. Such a beautiful coat and wonderful tail. You have obviously got a special way with animals. This stretch is just something a creature would do if it didn’t feel safe. Wonderful eye contact.

I saw a total of 4 that day – things are getting back to whatever normal is

Nice capture. Glad to hear the place is clearing up. I have to figure out a winter project. Maybe the bald eagles at St. Vrain State park. Just have to get lucky and be able to get closer to them.

Almost a smug expression this fox has and a perfect downward fox this yogi has.
Jay Ryser replied 14 days ago
I’m starting to think a smug expression is the only kind they’re capable of (at least it’s well deserved)

Another wonderful shot – amazing the rapport you seem to have with them. It’s as though they actually pose for you.
Jay Ryser replied 11 days ago
Part of it may be rapport – I do work hard at building a trusting realtionship (without resorting to feeding them) – I think it’s mostly spending as much time as possible with them so that I’m around when the good poses happen

oh boy that is either a very relaxed fox having a nice stretch or he or she didn’t see you, lovely capture
Jay Ryser replied 11 days ago
Oh, he was well aware I was there – he watched me for a bit before deciding I’m mostly harmless

I’m glad to hear things are back to “normal”. I just hope everyone doesn’t show up over there and ruin it all. Not everyone has respect for animals…as you know.
