Pika On The Move

Pika On The Move

The pika soap opera continues. When we last left our protagonist (Larry the Pika) he was a bachelor spending his days gathering plants to eat during the long winter (he doesn’t hibernate). He’s been so busy the the last few times all I heard was the occasional “EEENK” from his talus field.

Things have changed. Larry now seems to have a girlfriend. They spent most of the half an hour I visited chasing each other around. In addition to the usual singular “EENK” they were engaged in some sort of conversation.

“ENKenkenkenkENK ENK!!”

I caught this shot as they were racing through the talus. I was trying to track them with a 300+2xTC – not an easy task. I think this is his girlfriend – she ran right in my direction. Not the sharpest pic, or the largest file, but still a fun shoot.

Pikas are an at risk species due to climate change.

Very nicely captured! The Pika looks like it is going to wander right out of the photo! You also captured the snow perfectly and even the glitter of it!

They’re so fast and small it’s tough to catch them at all – but they’re a hoot to watch
