Wreck and Ruin – Silverton NSW

Silverton was a sort of practice run for Broken Hill. Mining was the go and the town boomed but ultimately faded in the light of the greater glory that became Broken Hill.

There’s not a lot of the original Silverton left these days. But there’s a lot of beaut character and characters still there.

There’s a bit of the movie star tart about the place too, as Silverton has been the star of many Australian films – Mad Max being one – and the odd commercial or two. You will no doubt recognise the pub if you’ve ever watched the telly over the last 25 years or so.

If you make it to Broken Hill don’t pass up the opportunity to head out to Silverton. It’s only about half an hour’s drive and blacktop all the way… and of course, there is that pub.

    Splendid at every level.

  • Thank you Marc. That old wreck isn’t as impressive as some of the sporty motors in your portfolio though… :-)

You perfectly capture how forlorn this place is. Bravo!

  • Thanks Michael. Sadly much of the Outback is littered with the ruins of towns, farms and people’s dreams. Life gets tough out there from time to time.
It can be breathtakingly beautiful though… and very addictive.

Blacktop all the way and a pub. Sounds cool to me. You’re always a mine of information, Jeff.
