An industrious spider built this festive web on the front porch of my house in Charlotte, North Carolina, anchoring it between a column and the beam. It was lit by a distant streetlight and the light on the porch. I dragged my tripod out and recorded the web for posterity. The spider lurked near the beam, waiting for bugs to stick to his web, and the porch light helped him out considerably by attracting bugs. Nikon F-2, Kodachrome, available light. Scanned from the original transparency. The gold color is mostly from the mismatch of daylight film and the incandescent porchlight.
