Common birds in my area and often over looked because they are so common. However at this time of year the American Robin is in it’s breeding colours. They are very striking at this time of year and for many years now we have had them stay during the winter. They often compete with the waxwings for the fruit of Buckthorn bushes.

Very nice action here…hard to believe they are still around Michael

  • Thank you very much, the last couple of winters we are seeing more and more of them wintering in my area. We have a huge population of buckthorn shrubs which they compete with the starling and waxwings for food. This winter has been very mild and they are travelling in flocks of 50 or so to compete with the other flocks looking for food. I guess the numbers make it easier to keep the smaller waxwings and starlings away.

Wonderful action catch, Michael! I’ve heard a robin singing in the last few days; they always over-winter here in some numbers, but this year those hardy souls have had a very easy time of it! This is a dilly….

  • Thank you very much Sheila
