Mourning Dove - Ottawa Ontario by

An often overlooked bird that is actually very colourful. The Mourning Dove is often seen and hear in urban areas and in the countryside. It is a favourite food for Birds of Prey such as Merlins and other falcons.

Very nice capture. It’s a beautiful dove Michael and we have them here in Colorado along with the Band-Tailed Dove, the Rock Dove (Pigeon) and the Eurasian Collared-Dove. I hate it when dove season comes along. Barb

  • We only have these and the Rock Pigeon. Would be nice to see some of the really fancy pigeons and doves

Michael, they may be fancy but they trash the barn and they’re hard to get rid of. Barb

  • You need to find yourself a Merlin or Peregrin Falcon. One of them and you won’t have a pigeon problem

They really are overlooked. I would love to catch one in flight they have a beautiful blue-gray under-wings. Superb capture

  • I would love to get one in flight but they travel at about warp 9

Not many folks bother to photograph Mourning Doves- I think they are overlooked for their beautiful and delicate colors. This is lovely.

  • Thank you Again Jenny :-)
