It’s just gone 2 in the morning
And the world has turned away
There’s no love left to give you
And there’s nowhere safe to stay.
They found you at the bridge again
Same time, same place, same ‘game’
Yet still there’s no-one listening
To them you’re just a name.
And now you’re a client record
On a database made from tears
A record of sadness, mistrust and abuse
That spans across the years.
My job is to give you childhood
Water fights, dancing and fun
We’ll sing at the top of our voices
And walk in the light of the sun.
We’ll talk about favourite movies
We’ll laugh at the stupidest jokes
We’ll sit and giggle together
And stand in the rain with our ‘smokes’
And I promise you safety and comfort
I promise you a future and more
I promise that no-one will hurt you
An end to your personal war.
2 years have now passed and we’ve done it
We acted like kids every day
We visited places and made every day fun
And cried and laughed on the way.
But it’s just gone 2 in the morning
And you’ve turned the world away
You feel that you have nothing left to give
And heaven’s a safer place to stay.

I wrote this poem for a future event which, sadly, I know will happen one day. Teens aren’t all ‘typical’ teens. Please listen to them and watch for the signs. Teen suicide is a reality and a tragic one.

I can really see that this is from the heart Jaybe, I can see you’ve been out in the trenches fighting the good fight of emotional recovery and helping other’s do the same. A well written powerful piece!

Absolutely beautiful, sad and you got it so right. I teach art to middle school students and have listened to those who talked to me about their lives and observed a lot of depression and other related emotions in them. I only have to remember myself at that age and how I felt. Those feelings carry into adulthood unfortunately for some or many. Thank you for posting this.

Thanks for your comment Rielle – did you read the partner piece from the description? It’s kind of a reply from the young person involved.

so sad, that some young ones come to believe that their only answer is to die….and it’s getting worse. thank you for shedding light on this tragic, tragic issue. the companion poem is heartwrenching, too…..

That is so sad….this was a beautiful and tragic poem. I think your accompanying words are true, we need to really focus on the youth, we can’t just ignore them or set them aside. Really powerful and nicely done.
