Beyond the Wire
75% of children under the age of 18 who are locked up before they appear in court do not subsequently receive a jail sentence.
Add to the mix the fact that many have been in care, a lot have mental health problems and some are hundreds of miles from home – rendering family visits difficult if not impossible. Prison is not an environment for any but the most violent children….
When you spend the time to take away the labels, destroy the boxes they’re put into, and see the person underneath, you can begin to see the potential.
Sometimes we need to look beyond the paperwork, the history and our own perceptions to see the true potential in people. Only then can we enable them to see a brighter tomorrow.

the depth of emotion within this piece (art and words) is amazing… if more people could see the hidden beauty in others maybe it could melt the razor wire.
bravo Jaybe!!!
Jaybe replied
Thankyou so much Carolyn….maybe one day….;-)
Lea Williams
Oh, that is sooooo true. It is sometimes so hard to see beyond what they have “done” what they “look like” and who they are trying to be. The razor blades and the colours truly represent all of this. Brilliantly done :-)
Jaybe replied
Thankyou Lea….it is hard but sometimes well worth it. ;-)
