Entry for "Hail Fellow"

This is my entry for the competition “Hail Fellow”

It didn’t actually take me that long to write it. The photo was inspiring. The “He” in this story is a person that I have not yet met, but perhaps soon.

Take everything with a grain of salt. And remember to watch the stars.

Short stories - Spherical Scriptings

Hail, Fellow.

I saw him with my own eyes.

He was right there, only a few feet away He walked through the crowd. His look was disheveled, his features, wild. This was a man who had LIVED. Truly, truly lived.

While He walked through the crowd, the people were yelling and cheering. They were leaning on the gates, trying to get as close as they could to the one walking through them. They smiled and cheered, and each one silently wished to God to live like him.

I looked at the crowd, I saw children like me. I saw adults, young and old, so many different faces but they were all alike. We were all alike. We were all seeking to live…like he did.

I took my eyes off the crowd and locked eyes with Him. I was the only person not cheering and reaching for His blessed hands. He ignored everyone in that crowd, and I thought that He would ignore me just the same. Perhaps I would only get a smile, or a nod. I only hoped to get one…little…smile.

The noise, stopped. His head turned to me, His wild hair and unbuttoned shirt turned in my direction. I felt every hair on my body prickle. My senses had become one. I felt nothing, I heard nothing, and I saw nothing, but Him.

He didn’t smile at me. No, no smile, not for me. He lifted his hand, gesturing in my direction. His eyes locked with mine, oh how wild those eyes were, I could see His soul through those eyes, it was fiery and untamed it was a soul that all men desired, even if they did not dare voice their desired, we all knew they wanted it.

I-wanted-that-soul.

Then He nodded His head, and every fear, every hurt, and everything ruinous feeling had left my body. Like a cloud being blown away by the wind, He had blown away my sins; He had blown away my pain.

The crowd dissipated. He left and so did they, but I remained, standing. I stood there for what felt like an eternity but I knew it was only a moment or two. The trash left behind by the mass blew in the wind. The wind had a natural way of cleaning the streets. In a day or two, no one would know that He was here. No one would know He had given me the one thing that I, and all beings needed.

And as I walked away, I wondered if He had seen my soul.

Well done, that was a cool take on the image. Left me wondering what he was, and thinking Monty Python ...he’s a very naughty boy! :)
