This painting was designed as an examination of the way wild animals are variously displayed and framed for us. Obviously, I had in mind the collections of big game hunters. Those collections are frowned upon theses days, signifying as they do the conquest of the natural world and the machismo of the hunter, rather than scientific investigation.
In the same vein, I know of an inner city pub that has various taxidermy animals, robbed of their dignity through the addition of make-up and accessories. Museums display animals in a natural and realistic fashion, allowing them some measure of dignity but something of those other collection sometimes remains.
This image is intended to be a little tongue-in-cheek.
