The Golden Age, oil on linen, 172×121cm Ruins strike a special note in the psyche. The Golden Age is based on the ruin of the Keep at Kenilworth Castle in the English Midlands, which I visited a few years ago. I love ruins and ruined castles are the best kind. I was keen to make a monumental, architectural image. The figure is there, as is often the case, to provide a sense of scale.
