Little Cathedral Peak from Cathedral Peak

Artist's Description

Standing beneath the Trig Point atop Cathedral Peak gave this amazing view of the Little Cathedral Peak.

I particularly liked the way this area suggested three tiers of composition as soon as I stepped up to the peak: that tree on the rocky outcrops that resembled something of a pathway in the foreground, leading to the Little Cathedral Peak in the foreground, which in turn dwarved the surrounding countryside and distant mountain ranges in the background.

I was also surprised that this image worked out as well as it did in the end… the early afternoon sun somewhere up above my camera was wreaking havoc on my exposures. The Photomatix Pro HDR processing worked wonders here… but not before I reminded myself just why it is we head out to shoot landscapes around the golden hours of dawn and dusk!
