Also from this shoot:

With so much commercial photography work on in the lead up to Christmas, I’ve not had time to indulge in my passion for landscape photography or the RedBubble community. That said, I am now taking something of a ‘summer holiday’ for a couple of weeks, during which time I plan to indulge endlessly in landscape photography (between games of golf).

This is the first workable shot I have come home with: dawn over Station Pier (to the left) and the Port Melbourne Front Lighthouse (in the middle). Coincidentally, that gray puff over to the left is NOT a cloud, but rather smoke from the ‘Spirit of Tasmania’ ferry that docked only moments before this shot was captured.

love the colours in this one.

  • Thanks, Lois… for me, it’s the contrast between the colours that works, particularly that darker red cloud cutting through the pale sky.

A serene and beautiful scene; great sky colours.

  • Thanks mate. Strangely, it actually felt serene and beautiful whilst on location, despite being on the outskirts of Melbourne city!

Glorious capture ! I think the Ferry Smoke has enhanced it beautifully !

  • Thanks for your comment! While I was shooting, I was worried that the ferry’s smoke would ruin the image… but upon reviewing the series in the digital darkroom, I really felt that the composition would’ve been overly boring without it.

I also like the ruffled water below the lighthouse.. makes another band. I like that all the details sit at the top of the shot with that smooth blue base

  • Thanks, David – that segregation of ‘emptiness’ and detail really emphasises the ‘rule of thirds’, I think.
