What a morning!… got up VERY early to head down to Cape Schanck for a pre-dawn shoot of Pulpit Rock and surrounds, only to find that the boardwalk was closed for maintenance until mid-June. Had to think of a new location quickly or risk going home with an empty memory card… Sphinx Rock at Sorrento popped into my head and off I went.
Before today, I had never returned home with any decent photographs from Sphinx Rock and the Sorrento Back Beach, so my hopes were not high. As I came over the top of the hill to the beach, I saw that Sorrento Back Beach was more or less at low tide, and considered that I was probably wasting my time. Much to my surprise though, the low tide opened up a whole new world of photographic opportunities to me, with rock pools and water running off rocky shelves and so on. It was fantastic… and I ended up shooting from shortly before first light until lunchtime!
Oh, you may be wondering about the title of this artwork… this particular rock pool was found underneath the tail end of Sphinx Rock… hence, it is the Sphinx’s Bum grin
