I actually purchased this particularly vivid Fuchsia plant some time ago with the intention of photographing its flowers. Despite extensive flowering over summer, I was never able to find a single flower to be a worthy subject – they all had serious imperfections! Strangely, the plant started to flower a little again this last week, and I finally found the ballerina-like Fuchsia that I had been looking for all that time…

This photograph was taken in a makeshift studio in my living room, with a piece of black paper used as the backdrop and another piece of white paper used as a reflector opposite the living room window. I tried the setting with various different lighting configurations, and found using a reflected flash with fast shutter speed gave the best colours and lighting.

The notrO effect was applied during post-processing to flatten the black background while increasing clarity and saturation in the primary subject.
