Foggy Night at Lilydale Lake #2 by

This image is based on the same capture as Foggy Night at Lilydale Lake #1 but is presented in black-and-white with a slight touch of the Orton effect this time.

Although the gentle colouring and soft gradient of the original image was pleasing to my eyes, I really felt that this image leant itself to the black-and-white treatment given the narrow colour band in the original. I chose to apply the Orton effect ever so subtly in this version to soften the harsh lines of the man-made structures to give them that appearance of sinking into the fog just a little bit more.

I’m very interested to hear how others feel about the comparison between the two versions of this image… which one is your favourite?

Beautiful b/w composition and image, love all that negative space with the fog – lovely mood to it :))

I’m not much with the words but I do like the “negative space” in this too! Great image Jase!! (never tried this effect myself, not sure how actually ;))

  • Thanks mate! Coincidentally, this really isn’t the best example of the Orton effect per se; it’s just that the same technique was used to soften the lines between fog, water and foreground objects.

Beautiful Jason, #1 is gorgeous too :-)

  • I’m glad you liked them both, Lisa… it seems that this one is the out and out winner between the two from the feedback I have received so far.

    Simply serene in monochrome.

  • THank you for the kind comment… the mono seems to be the way to go in this series :)
