Dusk at Elwood Jetty #2

Jason Green

Croydon, Australia

Artist's Description

This is the second photo in my ‘Dusk at Elwood Jetty’ series. After rushing to capture the setting sun when I arrived on location behind schedule, I kept shooting until there was nowhere near enough light to get anything onto the sensor (bulb exposures are out of the question until I can replace the remote shutter release that I dropped in the water recently).

In the time that I was working around the derelict jetty, the cloudscape was continually changing, going from scattered and detailed one minute, to bordering on flat and overcast the next. Meanwhile, the sun kept peeking through the cloud cover the whole time, casting this amazing golden glow across Port Phillip Bay as it disappeared below the horizon. I loved the long shadows/reflections that this cast across the silky water in the foreground!

Similar technical details as per the first photo in the series: three exposures (+/-2ev) were captured using a Canon EOS 450D, used to generate a HDR image using Photomatix Pro, and then corrected/enhanced using Lightroom, Photoshop and Topaz Adjust.
