Artist's Description

This image is based on Pre Dawn at Point Lonsdale Lighthouse, but desaturated to be a black-and-white image this time.

I personally prefer this one over the full-colour image, as the appearance of the bright light’s reflection on the lighthouse’s body, along with the associated shadows, gives quite a strong, eerie feel to the whole scene… particularly alongside the fact that the desaturation has really brought out the fast-moving clouds in the sky above the lighthouse as well.

That said, public opinion has shown that my full-colour works have been significantly more popular than my black-and-whites so far, so I am uploaded both for everybody’s enjoyment. If you do prefer full-colour images, check out Pre Dawn at Point Lonsdale Lighthouse

For the technically inclined: this HDR image was generated from three exposures (+/-2ev) using Photomatix Pro, then enhanced further using Lightroom, Photoshop and Topaz Adjust, and finally desaturated using Photoshop.

To see what the weather was really like once the sun came up (somewhere behind the clouds, at least), check out Stormy Morning at Point Lonsdale Pier
