Dusk Under Seaford Pier by Jason Green

Currently unavailable for purchase

At the end of a drab, overcast day across Melbourne, I decided to head down to Seaford Pier in the hope that the clouds would provide a heavy, moody feel. Driving along Eastlink, I found myself wondering if it were such a good idea after all… one couldn’t really see any cloud formations as such; just a solid, gray blanket across the sky. Arriving at Seaford Pier, I was greeted by a shower of rain, and found myself hiding underneath the pier itself to try and keep my camera dry.

As it turned out, this wasn’t such a bad thing, as I came away with this photo (the only good one out of hundreds, as most of the others were marred by raindrops on my filters and the like).

For the technically inclined: HDR generated from three exposures (+/-2ev) in Photomatix Pro, with minor adjustments then made using Lightroom and Photoshop CS4.

Amazing colours, So vivid and the pier draws you into the picture. Great shot

  • Thank you, Geoffrey – that whole “drawing you into the picture” thing was what I was looking for here, so I’m glad it worked; as for the vivid colours, I got lucky today!

    Excellent colours and perspective.

  • Thanks, Chrissie… I was crouched down in the sand with my body twisted this way and that for ages to get the perspective just right… it was worth all the cramps and stiff joints in the end though ;)

    Another gorgeous shot.
I love it in the black and white version also.

  • Thank you for another kind comment, Kav006… as for colour vs black-and-white: the jury is still out at this end!
