This piece was a big step in the progression of my work. It was an early painting, and reflected where I wanted the work to head. Art Spirit draws from many aspects of art history and my own history as an artist. It attempts to reconcile graphic design, an ancient Greek torso, an african mask, a sample of Caravaggio, a banana still life with a baroque frame, and aspects of abstract art and cubism into a unique and cohesive composition. Original is acrylic paint on paper.

I’ve always needed a creative outlet and have enjoyed drawing my entire life. About three years ago, inspired by the advice of other artists, I began creating art on a daily basis. That was a huge step for my work, which started improving dramatically. I got into studying classical realist approaches two years ago, and have been very fortunate to meet a nurturing community of fantastic painters. I’m indebted to many artists, writers, and musicians whose work has moved me to become an artist.
