I don’t know much about anything,
but I do go to an art school.
I’ve been learning about the trends
and ground breaking movements
for about three years now,
from the beginning of time till now,
and what I’ve learned is that nothing
original has originated since the 90’s.
In art, the last big movement was Dada
which was based on the idea of defining art.
Duchamp wrote his name on a urinal,
turned it sideways and called it a fountain.
That’s a fact. So art is conceptual.
It took centuries to figure that out.
Nothing but squares and paintings of paint
after that. Music stopped being creative
after Kurt Cobain died and pop music
stopped being written by the artists.
The idea of having a pretty face be hired
to sing about someone else’s false happiness
corrupted the industry. As for television,
it’s all big name companies selling a piece
of their pie so someone else can become
a filthy rich bastard producing for the
masses. One of the last great movies
was generations before its time.
Fight club said the things we own
end up owning us. How right that is.
So now everything is a copy of a copy.
Fashion has been in a loop for a dozen
years now and we keep recycling trends.
I’m dying for a day when someone
or something is… original.
